We’ve taken over the management of a complex and found the anchor points have not be re-certified. Under legislation, even if these items of infrastructure never get used, do they still have to be re-certified? Also, where can I find the information stating the legislation? – Christiansen, QLD
Question: My question is in relation to rope access safety points on building roofs and awnings. We’ve taken over the management of a complex and found the anchor points have not be re-certified. My personal understanding was that this was required every 12 months, however the chairman for the BC has said since they don’t get used and they don’t want to pay thousands of dollars for nothing. Under legislation, even if these items of infrastructure never get used, do they still have to be re-certified? Also, where can I find the information stating the time frame and legislation?

Answer: We would recommend you speak to the committee or submit a motion at the next meeting if the matter remains unresolved. For more information, you could go to the Qld Worksafe website. There is also more information in the Anchors for building maintenance guide. Keep in mind, acts and legislation differ in every state.
