Q: Do I need approval from strata to build a patio cover in my backyard? I own one of the townhouse in QLD in a 3 lot scheme. My backyard is not visible from outside at the front of the building.

A: It may be best to check with your body corporate by-laws, or with your body corporate manager if one is available. You can also reach out to your committee for clarification.
It will also largely depend on the type of patio cover. If it is modular and does not change the structure on your common property (e.g. no screws need to be put into the wall, or additional support beams and roofing need to be installed) it may be okay. Again it is always best to check in with your committee and manager, as erecting this without approval may require it to be reverted back to its original condition at your expense.
