We did not receive a garage door remote to our building when we moved in and our landlord has advised us that we can pay half towards a $225 remote. Do they not have to provide us with a garage door remote at a building we tenant? – Joanna, NSW

Q: We did not receive a garage door remote to our building when we moved in and our landlord has advised us that we can pay half towards a $225 remote. Do they not have to provide us with a garage door remote at a building we tenant?

A: Ideally landlords will provide their tenants with all necessary access devices and keys. However, it will be at the discretion of the landlord whether these are provided free of charge.

It may also be worth checking your rental/tenancy agreement to ascertain whether a remote should be provided as part of the agreement.
