Is it allowed to keep a dog in a free-standing home unit? – Ken, VIC

Q: Is it allowed to keep a dog in a free-standing home unit? Current body corporate rules for these property’s dated 2008 banned this practice. I believe this has been overturned by VCAT. Please advise.

A: If your building rules state that keeping pets is not allowed, you will need to follow them.

You can, however, have your building rules looked at and updated if necessary. If a by-law is no longer relevant due to changes in legislation, you can update or amend your building rules to reflect the changes or create a new building rule to take its place.
