Is my strata responsible for cleaning up branches and plants that are obstructing the pathways? – Debra, NSW
Is my strata responsible for cleaning up branches and plants that are obstructing the pathways, cleaning the rails of the staircase which are covered in grime, allowing tenants to leave rubbish all over the apparent block including food, and are strata to be notified of any roach infestations as we have an infestation of European cockroaches and we are new tenants so this infestation was prior to us moving in.

The owners corporation are responsible for repairs and maintenance of the common property. As a tenant, you must convey your concerns in writing to your managing agent, who will then contact the owners corporation or the strata manager. Most strata plans have cleaners and gardeners and these issues can be relayed and addressed by them. Please inform your managing agent of the cockroach infestation, as this is an owner responsiibility.
