Can I install a divider along the cyclone fencing near my garage to keep my space clean and secure? – Kathy, QLD

The best first step could be to communicate with the other two tenants first. Let them know, in a friendly way, that their debris is causing issues because it settles in your garage and on your car. Having a neighbourly chat can go a long way to enhance community living. They may have no idea it’s an issue and be happy to pull their doors down.
If you would like to install a divider, we advise that you first check with your committee or body corporate manager. There might be areas of legislation that need to be checked, such as whether it would require council approval, and some solid barriers don’t meet Australian Standards. What’s more, there may be special by-laws or permits required. Obtaining the right paperwork and making sure you follow the process that is required will ensure everything after will run smoothly and that it doesn’t cause an issue further down the track.
