Question: I am a confused on how motions put forward in strata meetings require special resolution. In our recent strata meeting, strata committee put forward a motion requires ONLY general resolution; however, when other lot owners put forward a similar motion, it requires special resolution. Can you please clarify ? Thank you very much.

Answer: Hi Richard,

At a general meeting some decisions may require a special resolution. These are often motions about changing the by-laws, removing a member of the committee or entering into licences.

Committee meeting decisions on the other hand are made by simply winning a majority of the votes.
