Q: The back fence of my property is badly leaning into the property on the other side. I would like to know am I wholly responsible for the new fence to be erected or does my Body Corporate share in the costing with the owners on the other side? I have spoken with the other side and they said to get a couple of quotes. I also brought this up a Strata Meeting and was told to take a photo, but I think we need to have the Strata Maanager from my group to come in person and inspect the damage. This was not caused by recent storms.

A: As you’ve suggested it would be best to have the strata manager come in for an inspection and advise on steps to move forward.
Generally, if the fence is part of common property, this will be the responsibility of the owners corporation to repair and maintain it. Your strata manager and committee should be able to organise splitting costs with the neighbouring property owners as well.
