Due to COVID-19 lockdown, one of my neighbours appears to be running a personal training business out of our shared garage. Is this allowed, and can we put a stop to it? – Janine, NSW

Q: Due to COVID-19 lockdown, one of my neighbours appears to be running a personal training business out of our shared garage (also where we keep our rubbish bins).

We have strangers coming in at all hours boxing and exercising. I can hear the noise from my apartment, and feel unsafe that when we go to take the rubbish out, we are within close distance of these people breathing heavily on us.

Is this allowed, and can we put a stop to it?

A: The running of a business on shared or common property is not permitted as it could affect the rights other residents have to enjoy the facilities. For any exceptions, any request to run business within your strata scheme must be reviewed and approved by the committee.

We recommend you let your strata manager or committee know about this issue as the first step in getting it resolved.
