Q: We have two internal/external doors that access two decks (not the front door) – all within the lot. Both doors are timber, inset with a glass panel, and are deteriorating from weather, especially at the bottom of the door. The building was completed in 1980 and I understand the doors are original. Who is responsible for replacing/maintaining the doors?

 

A: It may be best to refer to your strata plan. This will show you the boundaries of what is and isn’t your lot. You may also wish to speak to your strata manager for more information and assistance in clarifying responsibility for replacements/maintenance.

Generally speaking, if the doors are used and are a benefit to just yourself as the lot owner, the responsibility for replacements/maintenance may fall on you. Again, it will be best to check against the strata plan or with your strata manager to be 100% certain.
