I am trying to ask the strata secretary for two items to be discussed at our monthly strata committee meeting… Unfortunately, I am getting nowhere with this request. Q: I am a member of the Strata Committee at the place where we live – two buildings with multiple units.

I am trying to ask the strata secretary for two items (garage security and lift consultants) to be discussed at our monthly Strata Committee Meeting and put them on the agenda. Unfortunately, I am getting nowhere with this request. Secretary does not want this on the main agenda and puts this under other business items (there are already multiple of them).

Do I have the right as a strata committee member to set the topic as the main one during the strata committee meeting?

 

A: When it comes to disagreements within the strata committee, the most recommended first steps are always to try and resolve things internally.

If you are still unable to come to an agreement, however, you may ask your strata manager to get involved and help mediate the situation.

You may ask your secretary to raise a motion as well, which will allow the owners who attend the meeting to vote on whether or not they’d like to see the items be moved to the main agenda.
