Can committee members and owners ask someone such as lawyer/solicitor to attend committee meetings and/or annual general meetings? – Colton, NSW
Can committee members and owners ask someone such as lawyer/solicitor to attend committee meetings and/or annual general meetings? We feel it is difficult to have constructive and effective discussion with other owners to solve common space issues.

Hello Colton, engaging lawyers/solicitors is a decision made and approved by the owners corporation or strata committee. As an individual owner, you can take a solicitor to a meeting, however, they will only be there in attendance and will not be able to speak. The owners corporation can engage a lawyer to seek advice on common property matters, but a motion must be proposed and placed on the agenda of a general meeting and approved prior to engaging the solicitors service.
