Q: We have a lot owner who wishes to install an automatic garage door opener in her garage. There is not one there at present. There is also no power point to connect the motor / controller for the door. There is a light fitting but no earth. Her electrician claims she needs an earth to enable the installation of a power point for the garage door opener. Who's responsibility is it to find an earth and make it available in her garage?

A: Provided there are relevant by-laws for the renovation and a special resolution has been passed at a meeting, this responsibility will most likely be with the electrician or relevant tradesperson.
