A: This will depend on the style of pergola and whether it changes the structure of the property or not.
If the pergola is modular in design (i.e. can be erected and taken down) and is being put up within your lot space, then you will likely not require strata approval.
On the other hand, if the pergola requires installation through contractors and changes/adds to the existing structure of your strata property, you will need a special by-law drafted and registered. If the structure extends outside of your lot space, you will also need to have exclusive use rights.
