What can I do about a neighbour in my strata block that harasses me? – Janelle, NSW
Q: What can I do about a neighbour in my strata block that harasses me? Even if it’s not directed at me he yells his problems into my window.
A: A good place to start is by checking your by-laws as issues relating to harassment/bullying may be covered there, as well as the consequences for residents found guilty of harassment/bullying. If there is not a specific by-law there may be one about behaviour generally.
If your property by-laws do not address these issues already, you may urge your committee to have them included in your next annual general meeting (AGM). By-laws can be modified from time to time, to include new issues for the common good of the strata property.
You can also attempt to have an open chat with the trouble-maker. If it is not effective you may call upon the help of your strata manager or committee for mediation. They can explain the rules and consequences to the problem-maker. If that doesn’t work, you can always seek solutions through NCAT.
