I have a family requiring accomodation but can’t commit to a long term lease due to financial uncertainties. I am happy to review month to month with them but our building’s body corporate has banned short term rentals (STR) under 90 days. Is this legal? – Marcela, VIC
Q: I have a family requiring accomodation but can’t commit to a long term lease due to financial uncertainties. I am happy to review month to month with them but our building’s body corporate has banned short term rentals (STR) under 90 days. Is this legal?
A: At the current moment for Victoria, owners corporations are not entitled to place regulations or restrictions for short term stays/rentals.
Please be aware that the above conditions may change in July 2020 as Consumer Affairs Victoria will driving a full implementation of new laws, as well as reforms of existing laws.
