Is it obligatory for electricity fuse boxes installed on the exterior of a unit to be brought and installed inside? – Gloria, NSW

Q: Is it obligatory for electricity fuse boxes installed on the exterior of a unit to be brought and installed inside?

A: It’s highly recommended you ask an electrician for their input as there are safety requirements outside of strata legislation. There are no regulations stating that a fuse box must be installed on the interior or exterior of a strata property. Only that it must be locked and only accessible by a licensed person for safety reasons.

It would be best to check your strata plan, and your by-laws. If there has been a by-law made for your strata property stating that fuse boxes are required to be installed inside, then that would make it an obligation. Generally speaking, having a fusebox installed on the interior of a building is a luxury for convenience and will generally cost more to install.
